The Importance of Having Your Acoustic Ceiling Tiles Cleaned

You had your acoustic ceiling installed only a couple of years ago and so far, you love them more than you ever imagined you would. However, the older you get, the more you notice that they are beginning to look different than they did when you first had them installed. While it would be nice to be able to keep them looking brand new forever, this simply isn’t possible. Just like any investment you make, you have to have maintenance completed if you want it to last.

Acoustic ceilings are no exception. In order to keep your drop ceiling looking its best, you are going to need to have the tiles cleaned. These tiles are very attracted to dust and grime which means they have to be taken care of over time. We would suggest that you have them cleaned every two to five years for best results. If you are someone who can’t stand when your ceiling tiles look dirty and dingy, however, it couldn’t hurt to have your tiles cleaned more frequently.

Let’s talk about the different cleaning methods that can be used on your tiles:

Brushing/Vacuuming

When there is a good amount of dust and dirt that has accumulated on your ceiling tiles, it can be cleared relatively easily with the use of a broom or a vacuum. This can get a bit messy, however. Due to the amount of debris that could possibly fall, covering your floors and furniture with tarps is a good call.

Use Enzymatic Cleaners

There are also special cleaning chemicals that have enzyme detergent in them which contain hydrogen peroxide. These may be needed for removing grime that is stuck to the tiles. This will allow for this dirt to be taken off the tile without causing any damage to it.

Getting Rid of Stains

Just as with your clothing, there are certain stains that cannot be removed without special measures being taken. If you ceiling tile becomes stained, you will likely have to have a maintenance professional apply product to the tile in order to cover up the stain. Unfortunately, there is no way to entirely remove a permanent stain from a ceiling stain. If the stain is very large, it is suggested, however, that you simply replace the tile as a whole as placing too much cover up on a stain could result is compromising the tile itself or the tile’s fire rating.

Making Sure Your Ventilation Systems are Clean

Your heating and cooling system in your space can generate a lot of static electricity, which in turn makes dust to stick to the tiles of your ceiling. Therefore, it’s a good idea to have your HVAC ducts, filters and the system as a whole checked and cleaned by a professional regularly. This will cause you to see less accumulation on your tiles over time.
